Internet Explorer hacked 2014

Serious Internet Explorer Bug Leaves Half of all Browsers Open to Hack

Microsoft is scrambling to fix a newly found bug in Internet Explorer, which leaves all versions of the browser open to potential attacks.

Hackers have already used the flaw to launch "limited, targeted attacks," Microsoft said a "security advisory" on Saturday.

As with many attacks, hackers can start with methods like convincing users to click on fake websites, Microsoft explained. From there, the glitch could allow attackers to run malicious software on the user's computer -- and even gain the same level of access to the computer as the real user.

It's a serious flaw, and a widespread one: Internet Explorer comprised almost 58 percent of all desktop browsers in March, according to analytics company Net Applications.

Even the Department of Homeland Security weighed in withan advisory on Monday, calling on users to run alternative web browsers until Microsoft is able to fix the problem.

The Internet Explorer issue affects the browser's versions 6 through 11, Microsoft said in its post. Microsoft's response came one day after security company FireEye revealed the flaw in a post on its own site on Friday.

FireEye said attackers are focusing mostly on Internet Explorer versions 9 through 11, which make up about a quarter of all browsers. FireEye dubbed the attacks "Operation Clandestine Fox" and called the flaw "significant."

FireEye recommended that users disable Adobe Flash, saying "the attack will not work" in that case.

Microsoft is still investigating the issue, and the company said it may fix the problem through either a scheduled or off-cycle security update.

Until then, Microsoft wrote in a separate blog post, the company recommends typical protection steps like installing anti-virus software and being cautious when visiting websites. Microsoft also suggested using Internet Explorer in "enhanced protected mode" and downloading a "toolkit" to help guard against attacks.

Those steps could help protect users of newer Windows versions until Microsoft releases a fix. But the glitch is a sobering reminder that no help is coming for users ofWindows XP, as Microsoft dropped support of that operating system earlier this month.

The season four premiere had 6.6 million viewers, 8.2 million when factoring in Sunday night reruns. The season four number is up from the season three debut, which had 4.4 million viewers. Game of Thrones season three ended with 5.4 million viewers.

The season four premiere is HBO's most-watched program since The Sopranos finale in 2007. Since its debut, Game of Thrones has steadily increased its viewership, becoming one of HBO's most popular shows, up there with True Blood and The Sopranos.

"And, you know, looking at Breaking Bad, which is probably the most consistently great show in history, and I think the fact that they decided relatively early, it's going to be five seasons and that's it, I think that was an incredibly smart choice."

The homeless man convicted Wednesday of trespassing on her property was arrested "near the vicinity" of her home, the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept confirmed Friday.

According to information released by the LASD's Malibu/Lost Hills Station, deputies responded to a call to report a "suspicious person" and upon arrival detained 20-year-old Che Cruz, who was previously arrested on Gomez's property last Sunday.

Per the L.A. County District Attorney's Office, a 45-day stay in county jail had been a part of the sentence handed down earlier this week after Cruz pleaded no contest to unauthorized entry of a dwelling house, but he was released after having served seven days ahead of his court date.

Cruz was also, however, given three years' probation and ordered to stay away from Gomez and her residence.

When deputies arrived at the scene today, they discovered that he was in violation of a protective order issued Wednesday that required him to stay 150 yards away from that particular property.

He was arrested for violating a court order and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Authorities didn't say whether Gomez was home when this latest episode with Cruz went down, but she was there March 30 when he knocked on her door and, after being told to leave, holed up in her guest house until deputies arrived.

It's part of several hours of video captured by surveillance cameras inside the Miami Beach Police Department's jail, where Bieber was held after his arrest on DUI charges on January 23.

Miami-Dade County Judge William Altfield rejected arguments from Bieber's lawyer that the video should be kept private.

"The court finds that images of the defendant while in custody at the Miami Beach Police Department are relevant to the public's right to know," Altfield ruled Tuesday.

The segments to be released include a sequence in which Bieber "appears to be urinating" in a cell, "revealing an image of the defendant's genitalia," the judge wrote.

The order, however, instructs the court's video technician to blur "the image wherein genitalia is observed."

"While the defendant may not enjoy all of the expectations of privacy that he enjoys outside of a jail setting, he still retains his expectation of dignity," the judge said.

Several photographs taken by police of Bieber showing his tattoos were given to the media Tuesday.

Video showing Bieber doing push-ups in a jail cell and attempting a sobriety test in a hallway were released last month.

Florida's open records law gives the news media full access to documents, photographs and video collected by police unless there is a compelling reason to keep them private.

A status hearing is set for March 11 in Bieber's DUI case, which also includes a charge of resisting arrest without violence and driving with an expired license.
